The Light unto my Path: Part 1 – “Bible college, really?!”

Now, it’s been years since I’ve even attempted to blog but as I grow into the man God created me to be, I find it important to document my journey. Looking back, my previous blogs were about petty things, such as high school drama (in other words, who my current crush was). This not what I want for this blog. My desire is to inspire, encourage and bring glory to our Heavenly Father, from whom all blessings flow!

That beng said, on to my first post!

Growing up in a some-what contemporary Lutheran church during the ’90s, it’s hard not to have memories of singing Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith songs every Sunday. Being a newly graduated for George Fox University, the chorus of  Grant’s “Thy Word” comes to mind as I reflect on my 5-year college career. The chorus goes as followed,

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.”

From my standpoint, it’s hard not to see how God’s word has lit my path. Perhaps the most evident is out of Jeremiah 29. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This is so true! He absolutley has a plan and wants to reveal to us, we just need to listen for it!

I recall my first semester at Mount Hood Community College.  I was sitting in my human development class and the instructor handed out old library reference cards.  Like most 18 year olds, I was not interested in listening to a substitute teacher. Rather, I was preoccupied with a debate about when and where I would attend a 4-year college  As I discontentedly sat there, I heard an audible voice telling me to turn the card over and see what book was listed on the other side.  The reference card was for a Bible.  This revelation SHOUTED at me saying, “Blake, you need to go to a Bible or Christian University and study ministry.”

There are many more stories I could tell, however, the most impactful one, as of late, will come in part 2!
